As it turns out, this channel collects old cartoons. These videos are NOT "restored," but rather, "embalmed." That is, I've used my trailing-edge technology to add soundtracks to silent cartoons or otherwise re-jigger things in order to dump kartoon kontent into a convenient pile for you, the UA-cam viewer.

Betty Boop's May Party
I had the last few minutes of this cartoon on an 8mm home movie reel years ago. It was a real WTF viewing experience, let me tell you!
Were "May Parties" a thing at one point? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Enjoy the rubbery goodness, won't you?

Cats and Dogs (Pooch the Pup)
Переглядів 977 годин тому
Looks like it's time for a football cartoon. It's the big grudge match between the Wild Cats and the Hot Dogs. Somehow, Pooch and his team mates are dwarfed by the giants on the cat team. Will our underdogs pull out an upset? NO SPOILERS!!!
Aw, Nurse! (Scrappy - 1934)
Переглядів 13016 годин тому
Move over, Octo-Mom (remember her?) Scrappy's cat is "in the family way!" And, oh boy, is she ever! This cartoon answers the question, "Can a cartoon cat give birth to an infinite number of kittens?" The answer may surprise you! Spoiler alert: Chaos ensues.
Modern Guide To Health (Halas & Batchelor)

A short subject on healthy habits for post-war Brits. I find some of the animation on par with similar Disney-produced subjects.
Summertime
Переглядів 29714 днів тому
A Summer heat-wave can only mean two things on the farm: (1)The animals must have a noisy jam session, and (2) Farmer Al Falfa needs to do some day drinking!
The Magic Pencil (Gandy Goose)
Переглядів 12114 днів тому
Somewhere between Van Buren's "Pencil Mania" and Crockett Johnson's "Harold and the Purple Crayon" was Gandy Goose and his magic pencil. Looks like Castle Films issued a home movie version of this one. I remember seeing this on TV and being blown away by the whole concept. (I think I was 4 years old at the time.)
Yokel Boy Makes Good

Oswald is hosting a variety show in his barn, and, like "Porky's Preview," skunks are not allowed. Which means, uber-talented Skinny Skunk is not barred from entrance. What happens next may surprise you! Joe Penner and Martha Raye were such big stars back then...
Animation Has Changed (1971)
Переглядів 24121 день тому
Half a century ago, the Halas & Batchelor studio wanted to assure the Mad Men that they were "hip" to the current far-out and groovy times. England swings like a pendulum do! Of course, Yellow Submarine was, like, three years in the past, but the Ad guys were at least 2 years behind that, so this was cutting-edge stuff! Enjoy this groovy time capsule, gang!
Dere Mr President (1972)
Back in the day, there was a trend of publishing "Children's Letters to..." books. "Children's Letters to God" by Stu Hemple was the classic. So, one of the knock-offs was "Dere Mr. President," which was a collection of letters written to Richard M. Nixon a mere 2 years before he resigned. The fact that this was "A Production of the United States Information Agency" makes me wonder is this was ...
The Stevedores
Meany, Miny and Moe are dockworkers that piss off their peg-legged boss. And, um, there's pickled herring.
Firemen's Picnic
Переглядів 17621 день тому
Meany, Miny and Moe are back! This time they're Apeville's crack fire fighting team. A couple of tried and true devices are on display: 1. Piles of fireworks are accidentally set ablaze. 2. The firehouse is in peril of being burned down. At least there weren't any anthropomorphic flames taunting the blaze-busters. This seems to have been edited by the TV distributor. The TV ending doesn't resol...
The Detective (Oswald)
Grigsby Worm's justifiable homicide frames Oswald, who must prove his innocence in animal court. Will there be music involved? The answer might surprise you. Or not.
A Battle For A Bottle (1942)

How about a Frank Tashlin Screen Gems cartoon? (I seem to be on a Screen Gems kick, lately...) Cat and dog shenanigans aplenty with a twist on the "cats have nine lives" trope.
Your Safety First (George Jetson Adjacent!)
Greetings, my friends. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember, my friend: Future events such as these will affect you in the future. You are interested in the unknown, the mysterious, the unexplainable. That is why you are here. Little did anyone know that George O'Hanlon, George Jetson himself, would voice a futur...
River of Doubt (1927)
Переглядів 292Місяць тому
Another European Arte TV Aesop's Fable with a replaced title card. But "River of Doubt" is the cartoon's actual title! You know how hippos, monkeys and dinosaurs like to splash around in the river and have antics in the jungle? Dinosaurs?!? Yes, dinosaurs. Farmer Al shows up on a photo safari and ends up in a tussle with the gentle woodland creatures.
What if someone turned the Rubber Hose dial up to 11? And the Fleischers keep it jazzy by playing Duke Ellington's "It Don't Mean a Thing" when things go niuts
wow, the ending of that one really is all over the place
The dog/bear grabbing his crotch
Amazing, thanks!
so weird
Hey Craig will you please find The Sound Print of Ship Ahoy and also add The Moral at The End of The Cartoon Please?
If I can I will. I'm really looking forward to this CARTOON LOGIC release: @www.kickstarter.com/projects/thadwell/aesops-fables-the-1920s-vol-1-blu-ray-dvd/posts/4106903
@@Craigs_Cartoon_Capers Well ok but will tell Thad about the sound version and the moral of Ship Ahoy to him please?
4:27 I had a dream like this once.
There is no 7:27? Or is that the point? 🤓
@@soaniway9396 my mistake, i typed this during the premire. the time must have glitched
Cool, man! Funky!
Halas and Batchelor _were_ occasionally called "the Disney of the UK", so your summation isn't wrong!
There it was, god bless you!
I love the disjointed madness of these early ones
Farmer Al clearly has monkeys on his farm. What?
@@Craigs_Cartoon_Capers Maybe someone told him they eat mice?
Poor Farmer Alfalfa lost his illegal but ice cold libation. He could read about a "Chemistry Lesson" or "A Raisin and a Cake of Yeast" to make more. 😉
Looking forward to Cartoon Logic's Restored Aesop's Fables comp! 👌
Thank you for this lovely❤️gem!💯💜👍💖!
Glad you liked it. Thanks for subscribing, Frank! 👍
What a jerk, he didn't have to draw a villain
Yeah, that was kind of a d*ck move.
Bold of them to address discrimination
Oswald, like Mickey and Porky, just barely would get enough screentime in these cartoons to qualify for top billing. But, I guess they already ordered 26 Oswalds.
Absolutely love all of this!
A real time capsule!
Fascinating!
This really captured the zeitgeist!
!!!
Thank you. Craig! 😎👍
Welcome! Something a little different this time.
yeah, cool stuff. ty.
And then Koko would only appear on Talkartoons in 1931
Wow, they really had absolutely no idea how Hindenburg looked like 😂
Can't wait
Why August 11th?
I have my channel set up for a new video every week. This is the one for the week of August 11th. I hope you'll come back to see it then. 👍
Nice animation -- and that whole twist at the end was nuts!
Koko’s married? he’s not very faithful.
Craig, why are the cartoon premieres set so far away, like a year from now? Public domain issues?
I just wanted to front load my channel while I had the chance. One premier a week for the next year! I suppose I could rejigger it so the only show up a week before the premier date. Maybe I’ll do that..?
1:36 Finally tracked down this tune! For years, this was a real "ear worm". It's titled "The Dance of an Ostrasized Imp" by "light classical" composer Frederic Curzon. It was used in a Skippy Peanut Butter TV ad & the Commonwealth/ Paul Terry toons I watched as a kid! Love your site Craig!
Thanks! Yeah, I knew it from that Skippy ad, as well.
1929.Was a great time in America.
Interestingly enough, Disney would take up the same story a few years later. Personally, I prefer this cartoon because here the chicks come to the duckling's defense, whereas in Disney's version, the chicks are selfish and completely insensitive to the duckling's fate. Overall, the characters seem to be much more human in this cartoon.
Funny, but I always thought it was a family of ducks that ostracized a signet which then grew up to be a beautiful swan. Maybe I'm confusing Hans Christian Anderson with Aesop..? 🤷♂
Thanks for the full cartoon, during years, the only surviving frames of this short was a screenshot of the scene of Farmer Alfalfa with his pet cat with the gorila
Glad you liked it. I'm but a humble cartoon scavenger.
Cartoons on Film had posted this cartoon with the title "The Little Game Hunter", so maybe you have already seen this cartoon.
@@luizfernandocanaloficial9511 Oh! If that’s the case… sorry for the double-dipping, Tommy!
Why it's just like seeing a Herriman strip come to life! 😂
A favorite of mine from the early sound era. So much to love. Not to discredit you, but I think the correct title design would’ve been the one seen in TAKEN FOR A RIDE and THE APACHE KID (this was the first release of the second season of Krazy Kats)
Interesting note on the title card. I came across that graphic when I was doing a google search for info on this cartoon. It was released within a month of "The Apache Kids" so you very well might be correct about this! We can always cherish that SAMBA TV title card, though...
I am utterly disappointed that I have to wait 7 months just to see if this one has any more newly discovered Winston Sharples tracks :(
This part of the soundtrack got a copyright notice, if that helps. @ua-cam.com/video/rP3UJnD-ENA/v-deo.html It's not a Sharples composition, though. "Dance of an Ostracised Imp," Composer: Frederic Curzon
@diazbrothersyoutube I have rescheduled this JUST FOR YOU! Enjoy!!!
@@Craigs_Cartoon_Capers well I wasn't being 100% serious with this comment but thanks anyways 👍
This was one of the first Fleischer shorts i ever watched, pretty good short with my favorite Fleischer character as well !! Thanks for uploading this one, one of my many favorites from the Fleischer Studio!!
Love this one!!
More mechanical horses! It just occurred to me that their prevalence might be to make the animals equal and not have one normally riding another.
Classic!
Wow I never saw this one -- it was great! That Santa gag was a good LOL Signs that these were Noo Yawk animators: bum living in mailbox - Yiddish flavored chanting in the haunted house - the sorter in the post office for all the foreign countries also includes NJ (!)
Yeah, it was new to me. I hope we can see a better print of this some day!
One of the funniest Fables! All animated by Mannie Davis too!
Apparently, this cartoon was an inspiration from another fable called "Bughouse College Days" (1929), a sound reissue of "Bugville Field Day" (1925). This is the second and last time that shows the animators' credits, it's a shame that the animators' credits appeared in only two cartoons (this one and "Stone Age Stunts" (1930).
I love these older cartoons
I like this cartoon, its charming for what it is
Pretty imaginative gags.
I'm first!
Obviously a big Puddy fan! 😁
@@Craigs_Cartoon_Capers What's your Facebook?
@PenParody I don't currently have a Facebook page associated with my channel. Thanks for being a subscriber!
Craig, the title of this version is the original title of the cartoon yes! Arte usually takes the Stuart/Guaranteed prints and puts the title card of the Commonwealth silent reissues of the fables with the name of the cartoon.
Thanks. I suppose the Winston Sharples music beds would be a tip-off. 😉
so crude (which i love) and then a strange level of detail at 5:00. neat-o.
Such a strange interlude. I love it.
Little Lulu and that British cycling one were interesting. That was a nice print of the Yogi Oks.
6:00 That's voiceover legend Mae Questel as the Bromo Seltzer Tummy Bubble. Thanks, Craig! 😎👍

I'm guessing that's supposed to be the Mills Brothers. But, gee whiz...
